More about the Hunan Institute of Engineering
Founded in 1951, HIE now provides 12,000 students the opportunity to pursue an undergraduate degree through 44 programs and courses in electronic, mechanical, textile, architectural, and information engineering; economics and management, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, applied technology, foreign languages and trade, social science, humanities, physical education – and my department, international education.
It consists of three campuses which are about 8km apart, and was previously named the Xiangtan Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Technology.
The International Education department is partnered with the Australian University of Canberra, which offers a bachelor’s of business administration intended for students who aim to work in the commercial sector.
In 2003, HIE was rated a 5.0 on a scale of 0 to 100 for academic achievement, and a 10.0 for overall achievement.
While I would not suggest Xiangtan or HIE as your first ESL gig, HIE is nearly always looking for foreign teachers. They would probably offer you 4,000RMB a month, free accommodation, 6,000RMB as an airfare bonus, and 1,000RMB travel bonus for a 1 year contract. You would need to prepare a CV, and have a scanned copy of your passport and University diploma.
