Figurative artist Tone (Francis Anthony) O’LEARY was born in England, and migrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1966 with his family.
His paintings are colorful, geometrically pleasing, balanced portraits of groups of people. Individuals are rendered anonymous with masks, scarves, and angles that conceal the details of a subject’s face. Characters touch one another and gazes focus in such a way to introduce a curious and understated eroticism.
